How to Maintain Your Furnace
- Make sure the pilot light is burning. If the
pilot light is out, some units may be lit by hand. If you are unsure, call an expert.
- To light your own pilot light, follow the instructions, which will be printed on the access door. If you still have problems relighting the pilot light, call a heating professional.
- Check the blower on the furnace to make sure it is clear of debris.
- Lubricate the motor on the blower.
- Vacuum any dust and debris that may be surrounding your unit.
- Check and replace your furnace filter every 30 days.
- Check the burner for any corrosion. Do this by removing the flame shield. Check the flames with both the fan off and the fan on.
- Check to see if there are any gaps or dents in the flue, and make sure it is venting properly.
- Vacuum all dust and debris from all air registers throughout the entire house.
- Make sure all air registers are completely clear of furniture, rugs, drapes, etc., and flowing freely.
If you have troubles with any of the items above, it is recommended that you call a professional. Plumbline Services specializes in furnace maintenance, and is available to help.
