Plumbline's Going Green Cheat Sheet
Going green can be beneficial to your health, and the health of the planet.
Here is a quick cheat sheet for some simple tips to being more green:
- Read and research green issues that you are passionate about
- Cut back on excessive consumerism and skip your trip to the shopping mall this week
- If you can, make it instead of buying it
- Cook at home, and avoid fast food
- Buy less food at a time, so you waste less food
- Try to find a meat alternative at least once a week
- Don’t just throw away your old household items. Instead, donate them to charity, sell them on Craigslist, or give the items to a friend or neighbor
- Use your old clothing for crafty projects, or use them to create unique fashion accessories or fun household accessories
- Think about trash before you throw it away. There is no such thing as “throwing away” – it is merely being thrown somewhere else. Instead, try to find ways to turn it into some other valuable resource, whether valuable to you or someone else.
- Don’t drive everywhere you go – try walking, biking, or even carpooling when possible.
- Use less chemicals in your house – clean with simple and pure ingredients such as vinegar, and freshen the air with plants instead of candles.
- Use a water filter and drink your tap water out of a glass, rather than continuing to buy bottled water.
- Recycle everything that is recyclable – paper, metal, cardboard, electronics, glass, plastic, etc.
- Buy local, organic products. Organic products use less dangerous chemicals, and local items are great for reducing your carbon footprint.
- Bring your own reusable grocery bags to the store when you go shopping
