Save Energy While Increasing the Value of Your Home
Plumbline's Monthly Energy Savings Tip - Save Energy while Increasing the Value of Your Home
Here are some great tips on how to save energy in your home, while also adding to the value of your home. Not only will you save money from lowering your energy bill, but you are adding extra value to your home!
- Have your furnace routinely checked and maintained by a professional
- Purchase high efficiency appliances when the time comes to replace or upgrade
- Instead of regular light switches that are “all or nothing”, install dimmer switches so that you can turn down the lights instead of having them on at full capacity
- The next time you purchase light bulbs, buy the compact fluorescent light bulbs, especially for the areas where you use the light often and for extended periods of time
- Install motion sensors to control outdoor lights when you are not home
- Use caulking and weather stripping around your pipes, vents, and ducts
- Use a programmable thermostat, so that you can automatically adjust the settings to run the heat and AC when you are home, and turn way down when you are not
- Find all window leaks around your home and seal them
- If the insulation in your attic is less than six inches thick, add additional insulation
- Use an attic fan to cool off the entire house on hot nights
- Use ceiling fans for additional air circulation
