Refrigerant leaks / Causes / repairs
If your air conditioning isn’t cooling in most cases your air conditioner is low on refrigerant, (formerly called Freon) and in most cases it’s because of a leak in the system, so we’ll give you the main reasons for leaks, and we’ll tell you a few systems in your air conditioner that don’t leak so you’ll feel informed about Refrigerant leaks in air conditioners and how we can fix the leaks for you. Heat Pumps are becoming more popular in Denver so let us tell you that heat pumps for air conditioners don’t use refrigerants to operate. Heat pumps are sealed systems meaning they’re sealed tight.
Shrader valves are a lot like the valves on your car’s tires, and they keep refrigerant in the air conditioner and allow us to access the system to test for correct Refrigerant pressures in your air conditioner, and if the rubber seal on the valve deteriorates the refrigerant will leak out of your air conditioner.
Accumulators are needed for the heat pump to provide heat in the winter and are usually made of steel so they can rust, and this lets refrigerant leak from heat pump systems.
Capillary tubes leak on the inside of evaporator coils. These capillary tubes are small copper tubes, and because of vibration they rub together and refrigerant leaks from the air conditioner. These leaks are difficult to find because we have to take the unit apart to find leaking capillary tubes and solder them with another piece of copper tube over the leaking capillary tube.
Air conditioner or heat pump coils leak and can need repair or replacement. Most of the time the leak is in the coils; many times this can be repaired or the coil will need to be replaced. This is a job for an experienced technician.
These are a few of the main reasons for leaks but there are many others and we’ll find your refrigerant leaks fast with our state-of-the-art leak detection equipment and we’ll recharge your air conditioner with Refrigerant.
