Keeping Your Air Conditioner in Tip-Top Shape

Conserving energy when it comes to your air conditioning use involves more than monitoring the temperature your thermostat is set at and trying to be as conservative as possible with your energy use. There are many things that can cause your air conditioning unit to work at less than maximum efficiency. With the warmer Denver summer months just around the corner, it’s important that you know as much as you can about keeping your air conditioning unit working its best and saving you money on energy costs.

The most important step you can take in order to keep your air conditioner running at top efficiency (and we here at Plumbline Services cannot stress this enough) is to change your air filters on a regular basis. During the summer months when your unit is working pretty hard to keep you cool, it is recommended that you change the filters once a month if possible. If this is financially or practically unfeasible for you, it is crucial that you change the filters at least every two to three months. You’ll notice an increase in your air conditioner’s cooling capabilities, as well as a decrease in your energy consumption, if you stay on top of this task.

If you notice that your air conditioner is not working at maximum efficiency or if your power bill is looking a little higher than you think it should be, it could be that your Denver air conditioning unit is dirty and needs a thorough cleaning. The cleaning process is fairly straight forward, but if you do not have the time or desire to do the job yourself, you can always give the Go-To Guys here at Plumbline Services a call, and they’d be glad to do the job for you.

Generally speaking, the cleaning process is two fold. Before you begin, make sure you turn the unit off. Once you’ve done this, you can begin cleaning the unit by raking any debris (leaves, rocks, trash, etc.) away from the outdoor condenser. In addition, if there are any plants near the unit, make sure you trim them back to maximize airflow efficiency from the unit.

After you’ve taken these first couple steps, it is time to begin cleaning the inside of the unit. Removing the protective grilles is fairly self-explanatory, and once you have done so, you can use a brush to remove any dirt or debris from the inside of the unit. After brushing, you can also use a hose to spray away the remaining dust, dirt, and debris from the inside of the unit. Once the unit seems to be satisfactorily cleaned, you’ll need to reassemble it by putting the protective grilles back on.

And that’s it, people! You’ve just learned how to clean your air conditioning unit to keep it working at maximum efficiency. Always remember, though, that if you run into any problems along the way, the Go-To Guys at Plumbline Services are always willing to help you out with any of your Denver air conditioning, heating, plumbing, and electrical needs!
